The Hospivessel
The Hospivessel is a sailing emergency hospital. A basic set-up includes an operation theatre, pre- and post- operation room, sterilization and a central lobby for reception, triage and storage. Different modules can be used or added, like X-ray, pharmacy, ophthalmology, examination rooms and much more.
All medical rooms are situated inside containers, which are connected by a central area, the lobby. The containers and lobby are positioned on pontoons. These pontoons can be transported inside shipping containers: the whole system can be transported to any location in the world.
The Hospivessel is equipped with hybrid propulsion, containing both solar and fossil energy. Due to the limited sea gauge, this mobile hospital can reach areas where health care is currently lacking.
Hospitainer is receiving funding from the EU and European Regional Development Fund for this project.
