Medische apparatuur en medicijnen voor behandeling coronapatiënten op weg naar Sint-Maarten

Vanaf Vliegbasis Eindhoven is vanochtend een C-17 transportvliegtuig vertrokken naar Sint-Maarten met medische apparatuur, beschermingsmiddelen en medicijnen om coronapatiënten te behandelen. Het gaat deels om een mobiel ziekenhuis, een zogenaamde Hospitainer, waarmee 6 zelfstandige Intensive Care plekken worden gerealiseerd. Daarnaast wordt apparatuur meegenomen waarmee 6 extra IC-plekken in het ziekenhuis van Sint-Maarten gerealiseerd kunnen worden.

De extra IC-plekken zijn bedoeld voor patiënten van alle eilanden van het Caribische deel van het Koninkrijk. Ze worden als eerste op Sint-Maarten gerealiseerd omdat het versterken van de medische capaciteit voor de bovenwindse eilanden op dit moment het hardste nodig is volgens het RIVM.

We werken samen keihard

Staatssecretaris Paul Blokhuis (VWS): “Dit transport naar Sint-Maarten is een concrete stap in het verder opschalen van de medische zorg voor alle eilanden. Er is continu overleg met alle betrokkenen hier in Europees Nederland en het Caribische deel van het Koninkrijk. Samen werken we keihard om de verspreiding van corona zoveel mogelijk in te dammen en tegelijkertijd zo goed mogelijk voor corona patiënten te zorgen.”

Extra medisch personeel

Voor de versterking van de medische capaciteit is ook extra medisch personeel nodig. Daarover worden afspraken gemaakt met een internationaal bedrijf dat medische personeel uitzendt. Het eerste team van medici en verpleegkundigen wordt in de loop van de komende week op Sint-Maarten verwacht.

A C-17 transport aircraft left for Sint Maarten this morning with Eindhoven Air Base with medical equipment, protective equipment and medicines to treat corona patients. It partly concerns a mobile hospital, a so-called Hospitainer, with which 6 independent Intensive Care places are being realized. In addition, equipment is taken with which 6 extra IC places can be realized in the hospital in Sint Maarten.

 

The additional IC places are intended for patients from all islands of the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. They are the first to be realized on Sint Maarten, because RIVM believes that strengthening the medical capacity for the windward islands is currently most needed.
We work hard together
State Secretary Paul Blokhuis (VWS): “This transport to Sint Maarten is a concrete step in the further upscaling of medical care for all islands. There is continuous consultation with all those involved here in the European Netherlands and the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. Together we work hard to limit the spread of corona as much as possible and at the same time take the best possible care of corona patients. ”
Additional medical personnel
Additional medical personnel are also required to strengthen medical capacity. Agreements are made about this with an international company that sends medical personnel. The first team of physicians and nurses is expected to arrive in Sint Maarten in the coming week.
