Hospitainer Mobile Dialyse unit
When asked to mention a form of life-saving medical aid, most people will probably think of complex surgery, powerful medicine or even vital vaccinations. However, there are other treatments that can save lives and yet often get overlooked. Take dialysis, for example.
The kidneys are meant to remove excess water, solutes and toxins from the blood. When they can no longer do this naturally and people aren’t given proper medical care, this will almost certainly lead to their death as toxins and water build up in their system.
Dialysis is essentially a method to artificially replicate the natural cleansing of the blood. A patient is connected to a dialyser and their blood is pumped through the machine. The machine cleanses it by running the blood through a partially permeable membrane comprised of thousands of small, hollow synthetic fibres. Between this membrane and a solution meant to extract solutes and toxins from the blood as it passes through the dialyser, the blood is cleansed and returned to the patient’s system. Typically, patients will have to go through a four-hour treatment each week.
As you might imagine, such specialised treatment is not easily accessible in many parts of the world. Of course, providing medical treatment to people who would normally struggle to get it is entirely in Hospitainer’s wheelhouse.
Much like our normal Hospitainers, this clinic will be placed in a 20ft container with medical grade finishing. It offers enough space for two people to receive their treatment simultaneously and, as it can be placed on a truck, it can remain mobile and operate where the need is highest. Like our other clinics, this container comes with AC, air- and water filtration, medical equipment and ample storage.
