What is an EMT (Emergency Medical Team)?
The World Health Organisation (WHO) developed a standardised approach for Emergency Medical Teams (EMTs) since 2013. This to improve the timeliness and quality of health services in the immediate aftermath of a disaster, outbreak, and/or other emergency.
An EMT is a team of health professionals that provides essential healthcare during emergency situations such as natural disasters, pandemics, or in conflict zones. EMTs can vary in size and specialisation. But all aim to deliver rapid and effective medical care to those in need. EMTs are deployed quickly to disaster areas to set up temporary healthcare facilities. This to stabilise patients, and provide ongoing medical services in areas where healthcare infrastructure has been disrupted.
